The tragic deaths of over 1100 factory workers in a collapsed building in Bangladesh starkly highlights the urgent need for action to improve working conditions around the world. International Workers Memorial Day marks the deaths of all those killed by work activity over the years. In one year alone, this is estimated by the International Labour Organisation to be 2.3 million deaths, equating to 6,300 deaths per day, across the globe.

Officially launched in June 2011, the Center was created in response to the recognition that organizations are increasingly adopting the "triple bottom line" — or social, economic, and environmental approach to taking responsibility for sustainability. Unfortunately, when an organization considers the "social" aspect of sustainability, occupational safety and health receives very little attention, if any at all.
The Center is an Organizational Stakeholder of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), a network-based organization that pioneered the world’s most widely-used sustainability reporting framework. The Center is currently working to influence the occupational safety and health indicators for GRI’s G4 Framework.
The Center proudly participates in and sponsors the CROA magazine’s annual COMMIT!Forum, an event that brings together world leaders in shaping the face of corporate responsibility.
